I have completed my MSc in Microbiology from St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata, and BSc in Microbiology from Ramakrishna Mission Vidyamandira, Belur Math, West Bengal. After qualifying the CSIR-UGC NET with AIR72, I joined Laboratory of Chromatin and Cancer Epigenetics at AIIMS in November 2018 as a PhD student. My research work is based on gene regulation through genome and nuclear lamina interaction. The nuclear lamins are an important component of the nuclear lamina, located just beneath the inner nuclear membrane, and help organize the genome inside 3D nuclei. This interaction is crucial for many genes in maintaining their repressive state. In Dr. Sharma’s lab, I am looking into how these three-dimensional organization of the genome is altered in cancer that leads to pericentric gene overexpression. Additionally, I am also exploring the function of pericentromere localized POTE gene family in ovarian cancer.
